A Male’s Tale ~ Domestic Violence

Written by Jasmin

This brilliant documentary  highlights the issues facing men in Australia who are victims of domestic violence.

119,000 men reported being victims of domestic violence by their current partner. 336,300 men reported experiencing domestic violence by a previous partner. Personal Safety Survey, 2012

These are the victims the Australian government ignores in lack of funding for services, helplines, and support.

Courtesy of One In Three you can watch this excerpt which includes a story from a man who lost his children for 18 months after his wife’s violent attack on him.

Matthew Dillon of Parks Community, Fairfield in Sydney’s west was inspired to create this documentary when he realised the shortfall in services for men, which included the very limited understanding we have of men’s experience in Australia today, including the issues men are facing in health and the community.

Has the focus on women and girls blinded us to the stark realities facing our men and boys?
